Vision
Tucked against the western slopes of the Tetons, the Yellow Rose Residence reimagines mountain modern living through the lens of performance and restraint. Designed as a near-passive home, it merges timeless architectural expression with forward-thinking energy design — a sanctuary where craftsmanship and science coexist in harmony.
Wrapped in continuous R-20 insulation, with R-40 walls and an R-70 roof, the structure quietly holds its own against the extremes of Alta’s alpine climate. Solar integration and Trombe radiant window walls complete the vision: a home that breathes, stores heat, and sustains itself.
Design Story
From concept to construction, Yellow Rose was shaped by precision and perseverance. Early geotechnical studies revealed unstable soils, prompting a full three-foot over-excavation and reinforced foundation system — a challenge that transformed into a triumph of engineering.
Inside and out, the design speaks the language of natural rhythm: timber-framed rooflines, vaulted ceilings, and Loewen window walls that flood the interiors with light. Each decision balances beauty with purpose, creating an environment that feels effortless yet deeply intentional.
Signature Elements
Timber-Framed Rooflines | Vaulted architectural ceilings that define the home’s silhouette
Trombe Radiant Window Walls | Passive solar performance rendered in glass and steel
Continuous Insulation System | R-20 envelope with R-40 walls and R-70 roof
Custom Metal Accents | Architectural precision with warmth and weight

Exterior
The exterior pairs Lunawood siding with custom black metal fascia and standing-seam roofing, striking a balance between organic texture and modern refinement. Timber-framed porches and heated concrete patios expand the living space outward, while exterior blinds and solar orientation maintain thermal comfort year-round.
Interior
Inside, the aesthetic is minimal yet grounded. Polished radiant concrete floors and smooth-finish walls create a quiet, gallery-like backdrop. Overhead, T&G timber ceilings lend warmth and rhythm. Built-in bookshelves and reading nooks turn circulation paths into lived-in moments — subtle gestures that define the home’s soul.
Kitchen
The kitchen serves as both workspace and gathering space, blending locally crafted cabinetry, stone countertops, and an integrated appliance suite. A hidden pantry and streamlined storage maintain visual simplicity, while ambient lighting and custom millwork reflect the same restraint found throughout the home.
Bath & Suites
Each bath is designed as a retreat in miniature. The primary suite features custom vanities, walk-in closets, and radiant-heated floors that carry warmth from the structure’s core. Guest baths follow suit — simple, elegant, and rooted in natural material expression.
